Initiatives
The Mission of the Liberian International Development Foundation is to promote an increased focus on private sector development in Liberia, as well as to assist the general prosperity of the Liberian people. Inside Liberia, LIDF will help fund the Liberian Institutional Development Initiative (LIDI), an organization that will support and nurture socioeconomic and political institutions in Liberia to further the country's transition to a stable and prosperous democracy.
LIDI has a streamlined focus in the execution of its agenda on three sector initiatives with a view to promoting private sector development, infrastructure rehabilitation, economic revitalization, civic responsibility and national pride:
The Liberia Healthcare Initiative:
Internationally, the Foundation will identify and try to encourage hospitals and clinics throughout the world to act as "sister hospitals or clinics" with Liberian hospitals and clinics and provide humanitarian aid, as well as provide other financial and operational support. The Foundation will also work with the Doctors for Liberia, which is an association for doctors, Liberian or otherwise, interested in helping Liberia. This activity will help relieve illness and improve the quality of health care in Liberia.
Domestically, LIDI shall inventory and document the needs of clinics and hospitals throughout Liberia and prepare marketing collateral to publicize these needs to clinics and hospitals in the Developed Countries with a view to securing sister hospital relationships where a hospital in the Developed Countries decides to support the medical aspirations and needs of a particular clinic or hospital in Liberia.
The Liberia Literacy Initiative:
Internationally, the Foundation will identify and try to encourage schools and universities throughout the world to act as "sister schools" with Liberian schools and universities to provide humanitarian aid, as well as other financial and operational support. This activity will help advance education in Liberia.
Domestically, LIDI shall inventory and document the needs of schools and universities throughout Liberia and prepare marketing collateral to publicize these needs to schools and universities in the Developed Countries with a view to securing sister school relationships where a school in the Developed Countries decides to support the education aspirations and needs of a particular school in Liberia.
The Liberia Agricultural Initiative:
Internationally, the Foundation will identify "best-of-breed" technologies and partners to assist in promoting Liberia's agricultural revitalization. The Foundation will also seek international sources of funding from countries, foundations, multi-lateral agencies and individuals to support agricultural improvement and expansion within Liberia.
Domestically, LIDI shall provide critical linkages to the Liberian government and its agencies, agricultural institutions/associations and farmer groups such that the agricultural cooperation/funding arranged by the Foundation can be translated into actionable programs and activity on the ground throughout Liberia.
Other planned initiatives of LIDF and LIDI under development for future implementation are:
Liberia Vocational Development Initiative
This initiative is designed to provide vocational training for young adults aged 15-30. This training will assist the Liberian population in becoming economically viable, despite the lack of a formal education. The Foundation, along with LIDI, will also make grants to existing schools in Liberia to provide students with the best education possible.
Liberian Urban Development Initiative
This initiative will identify and encourage cities in the United States, Europe and Asia to act as "sister cities" to Liberian cities to provide aid and other financial and operational support.
Liberia Social Advancement Initiative
The Foundation will work to encourage religious and missionary groups to establish educational, medical, religious and social bases in Liberia. The Foundation will also work with Pastors of Liberia, which is an association, and other pastors interested in helping Liberia.
International Cooperative Initiative
The Foundation will identify and work with international humanitarian aid organizations to establish and/or expand their presence in Liberia.
Liberia Policy Institute Project
The Foundation will work with Liberian and international policy experts to establish non-partisan economic, political and social policy "think tanks" composed of Liberian and international academics to consider, discuss and address Liberia's economic, political and social issues.
Liberia National Communications and Media Promotion Council
The Foundation will develop a National Communications and Media Promotion Council. The purpose of the Council is to develop a plan to rehabilitate and develop Liberia's telecommunications system and deliver telecommunications service to Liberia. The council will also promote the use of telecommunications and tele-education to expand the delivery of these services to the Liberian people. Finally, the Council will promote the rehabilitation of national media services to deliver news, educational content, and political and social commentary across the country.
National Support Network Project
The Foundation will work with LIDI to establish a national support network for the Liberian population in the United States to help assist the people in Liberia. The Foundation will encourage Liberians living abroad to return to Liberia through volunteer, temporary, and permanent in-country employment arrangements with Liberian companies, not-for-profit NGOs, international agencies residing in Liberia, and Liberian government agencies. The Foundation will establish an employment center, in which Liberians living abroad can search and apply for jobs in Liberia.
Liberian International Financial Community Initiative
The initiative will work closely with the government of Liberia to analyze Liberia's economic plan and proposed reforms, in order to permit the country to achieve sustainable economic growth. The financial initiative will also promote Liberia's economy in the international community, identify sources of international aid for Liberia, develop solutions to the country's monetary and exchange rate issues, establish a debt relief strategy, establish long-term relationships with foreign countries, and establish itself as a supply and processing center for the West African energy industry.
Liberian International Foreign Aid Initiative
The International Foreign Aid Initiative will evaluate the foreign governmental and private sector opportunities or monetary support for Liberia, and will approach foreign governments, corporations and institutions for aid.
